Dr. Song Jiqiang is currently the Dean of Intel China Research Institute. His research interests include interactive technology between intelligent robots and the outside world, intelligent device innovation in various forms, mobile multimedia computing, performance optimization of mobile platforms, new human-machine interfaces, and software and hardware environments for new application usage patterns. Dr. Song joined Intel China Research Institute in 2008. He was then Director of Application R&D at Tsinghua University-Intel Advanced Mobile Computing Center and a core member of the prototype of Intel's Edison product. After Edison's successful productization, he promoted the development of an Edison-based smart device development kit to promote the popularity of Edison technology in the maker community and invented a new device category called interactive porcelain. He is currently working on the development of an intelligent service robot platform based on Intel technology. From 2001 to 2008, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a chief engineer at the Hong Kong Institute of Applied Science and Technology (ASTRI), and a director of multimedia R&D at Beijing Simple Nano Electronics Co., Ltd. In 2003, the algorithm he developed won the first prize of the IAPR GREC International Arc Recognition Algorithm Competition. In 2006, he participated in the computer reading technology research and won the second prize of the Science and Technology of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education (second completion). He is a senior member of IEEE and CCF, and has published more than 40 academic papers in international journals and conferences such as IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TCSVT, Pattern Recognition, and CVPRICPR. Song Jiqiang received his Ph.D. in computer science from Nanjing University in 2001. His doctoral thesis was awarded the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation.
